On Marcus Garvey's birthday weekend, the #B1 Experience underscores the continuation of his legacy with the support of five black empowerment icons: Queen Afua, Les Brown, Dr. Boyce Watkins, Ric Mathis, and Rizza Islam. Ric Mathis - Film Maker & Director

Ric Mathis is an independent visual storyteller adept in photojournalism and video production. As a former attendee of Fort Valley State University and alumnus of Georgia State University, he acquired an educational background in music management and marketing. His appreciation for the artistic craftsmanship of lyricists led to his first visual production entitled “Word”, which featured The Last Poets, Cee-Lo Green, Sonya Sanchez, Amiri Baraka, and more. Mathis is very passionate about giving back to the community. He has over ten years of working closely with the Atlanta Department of Education, agencies, and social service organizations to ensure community involvement and knowledge of community resources for various individuals served.

Finance Ph.D. & Economic Development Strategist

Dr. Boyce D. Watkins, "The People's Scholar," is one of the leading social commentators, black speakers, and freedom fighters in America. As an advocate for education, economic empowerment, and social justice, he has changed the definition of what it means to be a black scholar and leader in America. "We don't need more Ph. D's in the black community; we need more Ph. Dos." In addition to publishing many scholarly articles on finance and investing, Watkins shares his message with others, appearing in national media outlets, including CNN, Good Morning America, MSNBC, FOX News, BET, NPR, and Essence. Nation of Islam Member & Activist

Rizza Islam is a member of the Nation of Islam and social media influencer known for being an outspoken proponent of truth and justice. He regularly speaks on group economics, gentrification, and healthy eating, among other topics. Some of his views and opinions are considered controversial by the mainstream but ring true in the eyes of many who understand the agenda of pervasive oppression that has impacted black people for millennia.
